FAQs

In my case, giving birth led to an excessively large vagina with excessive muscle relaxation. What is laser vaginal rejuvenation and how can this technique help me solve my problem?

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation is a modification of a classic surgical procedure were incisions can be done more precisely, less bleeding occurs and the patients have a faster recovery. Basically, the excess of vaginal tissue is reduced, increasing this way muscular tension and also improving the tone of connective tissue that helps to support the vaginal tract. It can also be used to rebuild the perineum, that area located between the vaginal opening and the anus. According to Masters and Johnson, the sensation of pleasure in the woman is directly proportional to friction. Laser vaginal rejuvenation can help you recover the original and optimal friction force during sexual intercourse, giving the vagina the looks it had years ago.

What does designer laser vulvoplasty consist of?

It is the surgical aesthetical remodelling of external genital structures: labia minora, labia majora, perineum, clitoris and hymen.

It is possible to correct problems regarding asymmetries or hypertrophies (excessive size) of the labia minora, an excessively large introitus (vaginal opening), a destructured perineum due to childbirth or previous surgery, hyperpigmentation of the vulvar and/or anal area, reconstruct the hymen or treat the skin of the hood of an excessively developed clitoris. Each patient needs a tailored intervention to meet her needs and wishes.

How long does a laser vaginal rejuvenation intervention last?

Generally, the whole procedure tends to take about one hour.

Where is the intervention done?

Laser vaginal rejuvenation surgery is done at the operating room.

What type of anesthesia is required?

It is possible to choose between sedation (global anesthesia), local anesthesia or combinations of both. The patient can choose after all the pros and cons of each type have been explained exhaustively and depending on the complexity of the intervention.

When is it possible to take up sexual life?

Usually, it is not recommended to have sexual relations before 6 weeks after the intervention.

When is it possible to take up daily routine?

Usually, daily routine can be taken up between 1 to 7 days after the operation, depending on the complexity of the intervention. In labiaplasty, this time is usually 2-3 days, for hymenoplasty it is almost the next day and after laser vaginal rejuvenation the time could be between 5 to 7 days.

Will I feel pain after the surgery?

These procedures produce slight inconveniences which are very easy to keep under control with regular analgesics, particularly over the first 4-5 days. It must be notices that the use of laser minimizes inconveniences in comparison with other types of surgery.

Do these techniques leave scars or create changes in the sensitivity of the vulva and genitals?

The laser used for these interventions is precise and delicate. It minimizes bleeding and ulterior inflammation. In our experience, we have never observed this kind of complications on any of our patients. However, in a global scale, 1% of patients report experiencing this.

How long do the effects last?

The effects of surgery are permanent.

What is the difference between these procedures with regard to non-surgery laser vaginal treatments, so trendy these days?

Non-surgery laser treatments can be useful in mild-moderate cases of vaginal rejuvenation and also in mild-moderate cases of urinary incontinence related to making efforts. Vaginal laser surgery would be reserved for more serious cases. A proper clinical exploration is fundamental to advise properly on which technique would be more suitable for each particular case.

Can labiaplasty be done at any age?

Yes. There is no need to wait until a certain age to do this procedure. In fact, if we solve the problem when it first appears, the woman will feel more comfortable and she will even develop a better self-esteem.

Is it recommended to wait and get the labiaplasty / vaginal rejuvenation done once you have finished having children?

It is not the case with regard to labiaplasty. If the size of the labia produce emotional or physical problems, it is not necessary to wait until you have fulfilled your reproductive wishes. The pregnancy and/or childbirth will not modify the results of the intervention at all.

On the other hand, in the case of vaginal rejuvenation the patient must wait until she has decided not to have any more children since potential births after this surgery could bring the vagina back to the state it was prior to the intervention.

Is it possible to get done a labiaplasty and a vaginal rejuvenation at the same time?

There is no problem to do both interventions at the same time. Besides, it is a way of saving costs in comparison when the two interventions are carried out separately.

Can these surgical procedures be practiced by any specialist?

Patients often do not realize how important it is to look for specialists particularly trained to perform these techniques. In theory, any gynecologist or plastic surgeon will ask positively when asked if he is able to carry out these techniques. He may even go as far as to say they are “very easy”, “simple” and “complication free” interventions.

Indeed, these surgical interventions are not like the ones required in an advanced case of cancer or “open heart” ones. However, it is also true that in order to minimize complications such as fraying,

asymmetries in the final result, hematomas or alterations of functionality, these techniques must be applied “well”. As a matter of fact, there are “tricks” to the right performance of these interventions so that the incidence of all these unpleasant inconveniences can be diminished. These technicalities are not taught as part of the regular curriculum of gynecology and unless you find a professional who has been specifically trained to do them, we don’t advise you to leave yourself in the hands of “any” doctor, gynecologist or plastic surgeon.

Once tissue has been extirpated, it is impossible to bring it back to its original state. The consequences of trusting professionals without enough experience in the performance of these techniques can be disastrous. Ask yourself: what experience does this doctor have? Where and by whom got he trained to apply this particular technique?
